Tyler Herrmann

I started hunting waterfowl around 7th grade. I got interested in waterfowl hunting when I was younger and would go scouting with my uncle, but I lived so far away that I only got to go once or twice a year. That was all that it took to get me hooked. I had to learn a lot on my own to jumpstart my hunting. I spent countless hours reading forums, magazines and watching videos. With a lot of hard work I have found a passion that I will enjoy the rest of my life. It also helps that I live in an area that is great for waterfowl hunting, growing up in a smalltown has its advantages as everybody knows everybody so getting permission on fields is pretty easy. There is nothing better than watching the sunrise and then having ducks and geese be cupped into the decoy spread. I am currently attending Kansas State University, majoring in finance. I hunt whenever I get a break from studying and working. Although waterfowl hunting is my favorite, I also enjoy bowhunting for giant Bucks and one day I dream on going bowhunting for a giant Bull Elk. In the meantime, I am dedicated to hunting and carrying on the tradition with Team DrakeTakers.

Kyle Steele

Kyle Steele has been hunting for twelve years. The tradition with his family is Northeast Kansas whitetails, but his passion for the sport spreads to encompass hunting doves, ducks, geese, and turkey. He has enjoyed limiting out on doves each day of a weekend in western Kansas. One of his more favorite hunts is his first turkey. After spotting the tom in the cattle pasture, he snuck around the tree lines and ravines with his Benelli Nova pump trying to get within range. The observant bird caught sight of him though, and headed for safety. Kyle began sprinting after the turkey, chasing him into a tall bluestem grass field, back into the cattle pasture, and across a pond damn before the bird become flummoxed when it approached a barn where Kyle caught up and unloaded a 4 shot shell into the 12 inch bearded beast. Hunts such as that one are the heart pounders Kyle seeks every time he enters the field.Kyle’s goals include staying in Northeast Kansas and developing his hunting tactics. While chasing game has proven to be exciting and fun, it’s the art of the hunt that will bring more enjoyment to the sport. He called in his first turkey with a diaphragm call in the spring of 2008. He hopes to master many of the luring techniques from rattling a big buck in to calling a nervous duck into the spread on a pond in the early morning. Food plots and land development are in his future to provide habitat, as a way of respect and return for what they have given him. Hunting is only a part of the sport Kyle enjoys, while meat fabrication and food preparation are in his sights as well. Kyle is a Food Science major, taking classes in animal anatomy, slaughter, fabrication, and utilization. So, he is seeking new and creative ways of using his game as a tasty part of his life. Jerky, smoked meats, sausages, and BBQ incorporate a wide variety of ingredients and methods that allows one to better appreciate the game. The more he works with game, the more he realizes the art in cooking. Once he is done with a meal, Kyle is ready to grab the gear, head into the field, and get that adrenaline going again.
